The Samburu Project
This organization, The Samburu Project, significantly contributes to understanding global water scarcity and its solutions. They coordinate hygiene and sanitation workshops, build hand washing stations, install pit latrines, and facilitate hygiene programs. Sanitation and hygiene stations allow people to know how to wash their hands properly, fix water contamination, and ways they can treat their water at a household level.
WaterAid
WaterAid is an organization that allows you to donate a certain amount to provide items/facilities that give people access to water. This organization has worked for over 40 years and has a Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar. It also has the highest rating (four stars) from Charity Navigator. They have reached 28.5 million people with clean water, 29 million with toilets, and 27.8 million with hygiene education. The organization’s end goal is to reach 400 million people by 2032 and give them access to clean water, toilets, and hygiene education.
One Drop
One Drop is an organization that works on multiple projects to provide clean water to needy people. Their mission is to ensure sustainable access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene for communities facing extreme barriers through innovative partnerships, creativity, and the power of art. According to this organization, 2 billion people lack access to clean water in their homes. In addition, 17 million women in least-developed countries give birth in healthcare facilities with inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene every year. Currently, they have 14 projects in 12 different countries. These countries include Canada, Mexico, Haiti, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Columbia, Paraguay, Mali, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Madagascar, and India. One Drop believes in the acronym A-B-C for Sustainability, which stands for access, behavior, and capital.
Water.org
Water.org is an organization that has supplied clean water to 63 million people across the globe through affordable financing. Currently, there are 2.2 billion people who lack access to safe water, 3.5 billion who lack access to a safe toilet, and 1 million people dying each year from water-related diseases. It was founded 30 years ago by Gary White and Matt Damon. Water.org provides clean water to millions through market-driven financial solutions, one of which is Water Credit. Water Credit is a system where small loans are given to people in need to finance clean water and sanitation.
WWF
WWF is an organization that works to prevent global water scarcity and preserve wildlife. They envision a future where wildlife and humanity can live in harmony and work to save environments and habitats threatened by water scarcity. Due to Water Scarcity, the WWF believes that by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages. The WWF uses tools such as the Alliance for Water Stewardship and the Water Footprint Network to reduce water scarcity. They have also added 75% of the sites to the Ramsar Convention, which is a treaty that protects wetlands. WWF works to promote climate change adaptation in conventions and the preservation and restoration of wetlands.
